Butler native and homemaker Martha McClester Black passed away June 15 in Georgia after living in California for 43 years. She was 90.

The eldest of four siblings including Helen, John and Robert, she married her junior high school sweetheart, John Lester Black, in 1940.

Martha attended Westminster College, loved reading books, was an expert quilter, enjoyed a good game of bridge or tennis, was an accomplished console organ player, volunteered as a translater for the Braille Library, painted china and ceramics, did needlepoint and smocking, and loved her California garden.

She is survived by her children, Martha Wright of Texas, Ann Hoechstetter of Georgia and Douglas Black of North Carolina; grandchildren, Amy Foley of Georgia, Kurtis Hoechstetter of Georgia, Andy Wright of Texas, and Elizabeth Wright of Texas; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Zoe Hoechstetter of Georgia; and a sister, Helen Cypher of California.
