SV grad Boyd breaks record

Slippery Rock University’s men’s track and field team had 23 individual PSAC qualifying performances, tallied a meet record and one athlete punched a ticket to NCAAs at the Washington and Lee Track and Field Carnival this weekend.

Seneca Valley grad Jonathan Boyd set the meet record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.86 seconds. Slippery Rock High grad Ethan Geisler took second in the event at 15.20.

Geisler claimed victory in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.75 seconds, pacing three SRU athletes in the top four. Trevor Foley (54.28) was second and Nathaniel Helfferich (56.98) was fourth.

David Reinhardt recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the javelin with a throw of 59.89 meters, finishing in second place.

Women’s Track and FieldSRU qualified 19 individuals for the PSAC meet, recorded two NCAA qualifying marks and set a meet record at the Washington and Lee Track and Field Carnival this weekend.Ashley West set the meet record by clearing 1.72 meters in the high jump and qualified for nationals. West also hit PSAC standards in the long jump (5.38) in a second-place showing.Julia Cain also earned a trip to nationals with an effort of 3.6 meters in the pole vault and finished in third place.Butler grad Katelyn Wetzel hit the conference mark in the 100 and 200 dashes, taking second in both events. She also helped the 400 and 1,600 relays place in the top three.

SwimmingSHENANDOAH, Texas -- The Grove City College women’s swimming and diving team concluded the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships Saturday night by finishing ninth in the team standings with 116 team points. It is the program’s best-ever finish at nationals.Angela Palumbo also earned NCAA All-America honors in the 100 free by taking eighth place overall. She set a school record in that event.Palumbo is a 21-time NCAA All-American and the most decorated athlete in Grove City’s 129-year collegiate athletic history.
