Rep. Mike Kelly announces 2027 Community Project Funding grant program requests

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly

U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, has released his list of 2027 fiscal year Community Project Funding grant program requests for projects within the 16th Congressional District. The list includes six project funding requests in Butler County totaling just under $15 million.

It will be up to the U.S. House Appropriations Committee to review the requests. Results on project approvals are expected to be announced later this year.

“As we review projects each year, we are always looking for those that provide the greatest return on investment for taxpayer dollars. These projects certainly do just that,” Kelly said in a news release.

Requests include:

  • A $7 million request to aid the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation with highway construction at the intersection of Route 422 and Interstate 79. Funds would go toward the replacement of a deteriorating drainage system, including a pipe which has collapsed, as well as slope stabilization. Work on the project would take place over two construction seasons.
  • A $2,521,535, request for Cranberry Township for its ongoing work to replace aging and failure-prone water lines along Route 19. The township is seeking to replace 2,100 linear feet of 12-inch waterline and 2,300 linear feet of 8-inch waterline. The same project received $1 million from the previous fiscal year’s round of grants.
  • A $2.5 million request on behalf of Butler Memorial Hospital for a project seeking to replace 166 of the hospital’s 256 beds across the intensive care unit and medical/surgical units. The new beds offer more advanced safety and monitoring features for patients.
  • A $1,325,000 request for Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company to replace two outdated vehicles with one new fire engine. The two vehicles to be replaced — the first-due fire engine and rescue vehicle — are 30 and 15 years old, respectively. The fire company is hoping to replace the two with a combination unit.
  • A $1,232,000 request for Chicora Borough, which is seeking to make upgrades to its water filtration plant. According to the request letter, the borough’s current filtration system is past its service life and is in “dire need” of replacement.
  • A $300,000 request to support Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company in its effort to acquire a new brush/utility truck. The fire company’s current equivalent vehicle has reliability issues.

In total, Kelly’s list consists of 20 project funding requests across the six counties in the 16th Congressional District.
