PennDOT releases specialized traffic website for NFL draft

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation added a specialized webpage to its 511 traveler information website to provide real-time travel information during the NFL draft.

The specialized page will show routes and travel times, traffic speeds, construction, incidents, closures and messaging signs for the 600,000 fans PennDOT estimates will be in Pittsburgh. PennDOT is also adding 40 traffic cameras and 32 message boards to the area to monitor conditions and alert drivers.

“Hosting this major event in Pittsburgh is very exciting, and the department is using every tool possible to minimize roadway congestion and focus on safe travel by providing drivers with as much information as possible,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll.

The page also includes public transportation maps and links to Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s website. Guides can also be found on the VisitPittsburgh website.

PennDOT’s Western Region Traffic Management Center will update the messaging signs. Drivers throughout the region should prepare for changing traffic patterns, slow-moving or stopped vehicles and increased pedestrian traffic.
