Butler wins Lennox Invite
Butler’s boys cross country team claimed first place Saturday in the annual Bill Lennox Invitational held at Slippery Rock University.
The Golden Tornado had three medal winners in sophomore Skyler Vavro senior Aden Dressler and freshman Sage Vavro, who finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Butler beat out 15 other schools for first place.
The Golden Tornado girls finished third out of 13 schools. Junior Chelsey Kabel placed 13th overall for Butler, while freshman Jennifer Cichra took 16th and junior Autumn Pettinato 17th.
Girls Soccer
Kayla Daugherty scored two goals as Slippery Rock kept rolling with a 3-0 win over Greenville.
Amanda Lewis also scored for the Rockets, who also got an assist from Hannah Burtner.
Julia Hart stopped the only two shots she faced in goal for Slippery Rock (12-1, 7-0).
Freeport 6, East Allegheny 0 — Sidney Shemanski and Kaylin Greiser eached scored two goals in the Yellowjackets’ rout.
Carlie Giori and Emma Clark also scored for Freeport (8-5-1, 7-3).
Hampton 3, Knoch 0 — Lauren Galbreath made nine saves in this defeat. Knoch hosts Franklin Regional Thursday afternoon.
Butler 5, Shaler 3 — Chloe Weiland and Gabby Boden both tallied two goals for the Golden Tornado (7-5-1, 6-4) while Katie Faulk scored once.
Girls Volleyball
Kylee Eaton totaled 15 kills and 22 digs to pace A-C Valley in a 3-1 victory over visiting West Middlesex.
Andrea Meals added 13 digs, 11 service points and four kills, Emily Wetzel 15 digs and 11 assists.
Olivia Boocks contributed nine kills and 16 digs for the Falcons (9-2), who won by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 21-25 and 26-24.
Union 3, Forest Area 0 — Morgan Cumberland had 11 aces and 10 assists as the Damsels rolled to a 25-4, 25-7, 25-8.
Dominika Logue had four kills for Union.
Hockey
Karter Halleran scored the lone goal for Freeport in a 4-1 loss to North Hills.
