Valencia man accused of harming woman, dog

A Valencia man is accused of harming a woman and a dog in Middlesex Township.

Ty David Gaffney, 26, was charged April 11 by Middlesex Township police with one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and cruelty to animals following an April 11 incident.

Police responded to a residence along Deer Run Road for reports of a 911 call that was hung up. Police spoke with a woman at the residence about what happened.

The woman told police Gaffney became angry because the dog was laying in the sun, so Gaffney grabbed the dog by its collar, dragged it across the room and held it down by its neck, which made it yelp.

The woman said she attempted to stop Gaffney, and he shoved her on both sides of her face, causing redness and pain, police said. The woman said Gaffney also threw a new pack of baby wipes at her, grabbed her by the shoulders and threw her into a small desk.

Police said they observed fresh red marks on the woman’s face and arm.

Gaffney is being held in Butler County Prison on a $25,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 5 before District Judge Jack Ripper. Gaffney is represented by attorney Michael Jewart of Zunder and Associates.
