Woman accused of hiding 4 dead infants gives birth in jail
An Armstrong County woman awaiting trial related to the four dead infants hidden inside her home has reportedly given birth to another baby while in jail, the Butler Eagle was able to confirm.
Jessica Mauthe, 40, of Cadogan Township, has resided in Armstrong County Jail since Sept. 14, according to jail records. She was charged with one felony count each of homicide and involuntary manslaughter and four misdemeanor counts each of abuse of corpse and concealing the death of a child.
The baby was reportedly born a couple weeks ago.
Mauthe had a trial scheduled for Monday, but it was postponed.
The first infant’s body was discovered Sept. 13 while the property owner of the Oak Avenue home was cleaning the residence. The others were found afterward.
Mauthe was evicted from the property Aug. 14, and the locks were changed Aug. 30.
Attempts to reach Armstrong County District Attorney Katie Charlton and Armstrong County Jail leadership were unsuccessful.
