Pirates, Tsutsugo agree on contract
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed free agent infielder/outfielder Yoshi Tsutsugo to a major league contract.
Tsutsugo, 29, has spent most of this season with Class AAA Oklahoma City, hitting .257 with 10 homers and 32 RBI. He was hitting .387 with Oklahoma City this month.
A member of Tampa Bay’s Opening Day roster, Tsutsugo was designated for assignment in May, joined the Loas Angeles Dodgers for 12 games and was released Saturday.
The left-handed hitter played for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball Organization from 2010-19 before signing with Tampa Bay.
The Pirates designated John Nogowski for assignment to make room for Tsutsugo.
