BlueSox fall to Paints, 1-0
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Paints edged the Butler BlueSox 1-0 on Wednesday night at VA Memorial Stadium and moved within one game of Butler for a spot in the Prospect League playoffs with four games remaining.
The Paints scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning on an RBI single from Justin Wagler, scoring Daniel Zuchowski.
BlueSox starting pitcher Adam Aldred struck out nine, walked one and allowed just four hits over seven innings. Chillicothe’s Nick Jensen-Clagg countered by allowing only two hits in 6 2-3 innings.
Tyler Swarmer took the loss for the BlueSox. He pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning, but surrendered a leadoff walk to begin the ninth and was pulled in favor of Tyler Ferguson, who couldn’t keep the Paints off the board.
Andrew Marra picked up the win after stranding Butler runners at first and second with one out in the top of the ninth.
Ryan Fitzgerald, Pat McCarthy and Ryan Wonders each singled in a three-hit night for the BlueSox. Chillicothe was led by James Miglin, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
Butler will look to rebound Thursday night at Pullman Park for the first half of a home-and-home series against the Lorain County Ironmen. Chillicothe travels to first-place West Virginia for a two-game set.
Slippery Rock 4, West Virginia 3 — The Sliders jumped out to a 4-0 lead through five innings and held on for victory, preventing the Miners from securing the East Division title.
Cooper Mickelson went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI for the Sliders, Parker Osborne also doubled, while Storm Wilson tripled and scored twice.
Tyler Wilson earned the win on the mound for Slippery Rock. He struck out six and gave up only one hit over 5 1-3 innings, but walked nine and allowed two earned runs.
Jake Eikleberry and Cole Lentz handled middle relief duties, before Ryan Furtney picked up his fifth save of the season.
The Miners hold a three-game lead over the BlueSox in the East Division with four games to play.
