Officials OK BC3 postings Commissioners named 4 to BC3 board

4 reappointed to serve on board of trustees

The Butler County commissioners Wednesday made four reappointments to the Butler County Community College board of trustees, but two of the appointees did not receive unanimous support.

Commissioner Jim Eckstein opposed the reappointments of Kim Geyer, Commissioner Bill McCarrier’s administrative assistant, and Butler attorney Jennifer Linn.

Eckstein stressed the reason for his votes was not personal.

“I like Kim Geyer,” he said.

Eckstein said the issue is the BC3 board needs more diversity.

“Too many of these people are friends with the commissioners,” he said.

McCarrier disagreed, saying he did not know half of the people serving on the board until he was on the board between stints as a commissioner.

He also disagreed the composition of the board is inadequate.

“I don’t know how you can be more diverse,” McCarrier said.

He pointed out the college previously paid a firm $5,000 to determine there was no conflict of interest for Geyer to serve on the board.

Commissioner Dale Pinkerton sided with McCarrier.

Eckstein insisted his opposition to the reappointments was not a personal attack. He accused his fellow commissioners of being insecure about what they’re doing to allege he’s constantly launching personal attacks.

“I’m allowed to have different opinions,” Eckstein said.

Board members Jim Ferguson, director of training for Penn United Technologies, and Glenn Miller, funeral director for Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, were reappointed without any dissent.

All four reappointments will serve six-year terms.
