Bruin man accused of sending threatening letters, package to state police Butler barracks

A Bruin man is accused of dropping off a threatening package and letters to the state police barracks in Butler Township.

James D. Lachesky, 69, was charged Monday, April 6, by state police with felony terroristic threats and misdemeanor simple assault following a Sunday, April 5, incident.

Police said Lachesky dropped off a package that contained various letters, a loaded shotgun shell and a loaded rifle shell. The package was labeled “my gift to you,” police said.

Messages delivered included statements such as “never piss off a vet of this new USA” and “come visit no uniform no (expletive) vest.”

The messages also referenced an “accidental shooting,” with Lachesky saying he always keeps one in the chamber, police said. He also included two 24-count boxes of Tannerite, which is a brand of exploding targets, and gun information.

Lachesky also said in the letters he laid out plastic, trail cameras, motion detectors, security cameras and propane tanks surrounding the area, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear which area he was referring to.

Police said a trooper had spoken with Lachesky two days earlier and he held up an iPad with a gun on it and pretended to shoot the trooper.

Lachesky’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Thursday before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell. He’s being held in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.
