Crews respond to camper fire in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TWP — Firefighters extinguished a Tuesday afternoon fire in a camper at the Church of the Nazarene’s Mount Chestnut Nazarene Retreat Center before it could spread to other campers.

Four fire departments were dispatched shortly after noon to the fire at the center off North Road. No one was injured.

Nate Blackwood, chief of the Prospect — Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department, said an employee called 911 after spotting the fire.

He said no one is currently camping at the center and the camper was vacant, but it was the only camper at the center that had electric power. An electric issue is the likely cause of the fire, he said.

The fire started to extend to an adjacent camper, but firefighters stopped it from spreading, Blackwood said.

The Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, Connoquenessing Volunteer fire Company and the Butler Township Volunteer fire District, and Butler Ambulance Service also responded.
