West Liberty council appoints new mayor
WEST LIBERTY — After the death of former Mayor Betty Kreutz last week, borough council voted to appoint an interim mayor.
Michael Bosch, a lifelong resident of West Liberty, was appointed in a 4-0 vote during a meeting Monday evening, April 6.
Borough President Colten McDeavitt was absent.
“Your brother would be very proud,” Councilwoman Cheryl McMurray said to Bosch after he accepted the appointment, referring to his brother, Mark Bosch, who previously served as mayor.
Borough secretary Kaylin Hudson said the borough had 30 days to fill the role and that she’d reach out to the Butler County Bureau of Elections to inform them and look into next steps regarding a special election.
Before officially taking the role, Bosch will need to fill out paperwork and be sworn in by the district judge.
“I grew up here, and I want to help the community,” Bosch said about why he decided to take on the role.
The next scheduled West Liberty Borough Council meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 4.
