BC3 gets OK to offer 89 online courses nationwide
BUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College can now showcase its course offerings coast to coast.
On Tuesday the school announced that it had received approval from state and federal regulators to offer 89 online courses nationwide. That followed Friday’s announcement by Ann McCandless, BC3’s dean of educational technology, that the school had been approved for membership in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements.
The approvals and membership mean BC3 can now advertise its online courses in the council’s 47 member states without seeking approval from individual states — something BC3 officials said was time-consuming and often costly.
Only California, Florida and Massachusetts are not members of the council.
McCandless called the approvals an important expansion of services for students and instructors who want to teach or learn outside of Pennsylvania.
“We can do internships, practicums, clinical experiences in other states for our students as long as we stay within the requirements (of the) membership,” she said.
BC3 is ranked 13th of Pennsylvania’s 117 schools in distance education by OnlineColleges.com.
