Slippery Rock softball’s Sophia Lawrence hits walk-off HR vs Rocky Grove: Roundup

Sophia Lawrence’s three-run home run capped Slippery Rock softball’s rally in an 8-5 victory over Rocky Grove on Tuesday.

Lawrence tallied two other hits and four total RBIs for the Rockets, who trailed 5-2 entering their final at-bat. Lillian Campbell added two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.

Joslyn Korcok earned the pitching win, striking out five and walking two in a complete game.

North Allegheny 16, Butler 2 — Kyra Olivares hit a double and triple for the Golden Tornado.

Indiana 6, Knoch 0 — The Knights were limited to just five singles by Indiana’s Samantha Martin.

Alena Tekely, Emersyn Jones, Kaila Purcell, Lizzie Danik and Zoey Wyant each had a base hit for Knoch.

Karns City 18, Union/A-C Valley 0 — In three innings, Nicole Huff tallied three hits, three runs scored and five batted in for the Gremlins.

Syd Cornman doubled for the Falcon Knights.

Freeport 22, Hampton (Tenn.) 1 — Grace Palko tallied four hits and five RBIs in this win earned in South Carolina.

Baseball

North Hills had no answer for Butler’s Kyle Casteel, who fanned 12, walked none and allowed only three hits in a complete-game, 4-0 shutout of the Indians.

Karsten Lenyk had two hits and a run batted in for the Golden Tornado (5-1, 4-0).

Knoch 11, Greensburg Salem 0 — Knoch’s 10 hits belonged to 10 different players in this five-inning rout of the Golden Lions.

Brady Linamen singled, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Knights.

Hunter Lang and Cooper Allison combined to keep Greensburg Salem off the board.

Central Catholic 6, Seneca Valley 0 — Mason Fisher and Micah Olayer both doubled for the Raiders, who were held in check by Central pitcher Austin Quinlan.

Freeport 7, Ligonier Valley 3 — Jeffrey Coller paced Freeport’s 16-hit attack with four hits and added two runs and two RBIs.

Gage Blystone pitched a complete game in the victory, striking out six, walking three and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits.

Karns City 15, Union/A-C Valley 6 — Camden Slater was 4-for-5 and Garrett Fleming had three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Gremlins.

Connor Langdon singled, tripled and scored three times for the Falcon Knights.

New Castle 4, Mars 1 — Colin Yurisinec singled and drove in the Planets’ only run.

Flag football

Lizzie Fabian, recently named to the Big 33 Football Classic flag football tournament, scored four touchdowns as North Catholic rolled over Pine-Richland 33-6 in a road win.

Katie Miller added a rushing TD. Fabian, Riley Marsico and Sarah Shay each had interceptions on defense.

Track and field

Slippery Rock split a dual meet with Hickory, the girls winning 76-74 and the boys losing 96-54.

Samantha Montgomery won the girls long jump (16-10) and triple jump (34-1.5), and M. Moschillo swept the distances races with a 5:40.10 in the 1600-meter and 12:13.47 in the 3200.

Hunter Doerflinger won the boys 800 (2:18.13) and helped the 4x800 relay (9:13.11) and 4x400 (3:44.67) to wins.

Boys volleyball

Butler beat Pine-Richland 3-2 thanks to 21 kills and four blocks from Andrew Slaugenhoup, winning by set scores of 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, 20-25, 15-9.

Avery Rudolph dished out 32 assists to help the Golden Tornado improve to 6-1 (1-1 WPIAL Section 1-6A), and Maddox McCall had 22 digs.

Boys tennis

Butler fell 5-0 to Sewickley Academy on the road.

Basketball

Butler senior guard Andrew Getting was named an MVP in the Cager Classic all-star basketball game for the boys East team, and Knoch senior Teegan Finucan earned the honor for the West.

Freeport’s Jaisa Gailott also earned the honor for the girls West team.

The Cager Classic was held Saturday.

Knoch’s Neah Ewing scored 21 points and won the individual hot shot and 3-point competitions, and Mars’ Alexis Cashdollar had 19 points. Butler’s Emily Hoffer had 12 points for the East team.

Knoch’s Vinnie DeFelice won the boys individual hot shot contest.
