Renovations are on schedule

End of project set in October

CRANBERRY TWP — Renovations at the township municipal center are about 60 percent complete, and officials still expect a completion date of mid-October.

The $3.1 million project started in April and has continued with minimal disruption to normal services at the municipal center on Rochester Road.

The sliding glass back doors of the municipal center have been closed for the past several weeks because of renovations in that part of the building, according to township engineer Tim Zinkham.

Most of the work is being done outside of the public’s view in the southwest corner of the building, a location that previously housed the police department.

That space has been vacant since 2005 and is being transformed into preschool classrooms and activity rooms.

That part of that project, designated as the first phase, is expected to wrap up in mid-August, Zinkham said, as crews still have lighting and flooring work to finish.

Residents also might be curious about the large crane in the back parking lot of the center. The crane is being used to replace about 30 heating and air conditioning units on top of the roof, while the roof itself also is being replaced.

The third phase of the project, which will include renovations to the parks and recreation department as well as new carpeting in common areas, likely will start in early September, Zinkham said.

“Things are going according to plan and according to schedule,” he said. “We’ve really hit no major obstacles or hurdles along the way. As of right now we’re on time and on budget.”

There will be minimal disruptions to normal activities at the center, although crews will need to close the front doors for several days in September to renovate them.

Zinkham added, “It’s been a wet summer but we still have been able to get the roof work completed.”
