George J. Piszko

George J. Piszko, 94, of Hampton, Va., passed away at his home on Dec. 21 surrounded by his loving family.

He had been a resident of the Hampton Roads area since 1950.

George was born April 22, 1916, in Butler to the late Paul and Barbara Piszko, immigrants from Czechoslovakia.

He graduated from Butler High School in 1935 and went on to graduate from Robert Morris Business College in Pittsburgh.

He was World War II veteran and served in the European theater.

George retired after 30 years of civil service at Langley Air Force Base.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. George enjoyed working in his yard, reading, cooking ethnic foods, watching and college sporting events. He also was an avid vegetable gardener.

He was a founding member and patriarch of the Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Va., volunteering hundreds of hours at the church with his wife each year.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julia; two sons, Dennis of Hampton, Va., and David and his wife, Janet, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Patty Dunham and her husband, Michael, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and two grandsons, Paul Piszko and his wife, Isle, of Atlanta, Ga., and Jeffrey Dunham and his wife, Nadine, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Proveux; one nephew, Lawrence Proveux; and one grandson, Michael John Dunham.

George will be missed by all who knew him.

<B>PISZKO</B> — The family of George J. Piszko, who died Monday, Dec. 21, 2010, will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the <B>Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home</B>, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va. Prayers will be from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church, 114 Palace Lane, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
