Schaffhauser throws for 276 yards in 35-27 Freeport loss

Garret Schaffhauser completed 25-of-39 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns, but the Freeport football team's rally fell just short in a 35-27 loss to Derry Friday night.

The Yellowjackets trailed 35-14 with eight minutes remaining in the game before Brodey Woods hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Schaffhauser to cut the lead to 35-20.

Schaffhauser added a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:48 remaining to cut the gap to eight, but Freeport wasn't able to score again.

Freeport rolled up 421 yards of offense in the loss.

Woods caught eight passes, Isiah Bauman seven and Josh Bollinger six to highlight the passing attack for Freeport (0-1).

Reynolds 25, Slippery Rock 21 — Nathan Hyatt rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns, but the Rockets couldn't hold on to a 21-13 fourth-quarter lead in a non-region loss.

Hyatt scored on runs of 2 and 7. His second score gave Slippery Rock a 14-13 lead in the third quarter.

Rockets' quarterback Vito Pilosi hooked up with Ethan Plesakov for a 35-yard touchdown that gave Slippery Rock a 21-13 lead in the fourth.

Pilosi was 4 of 12 for 79 yards. Pilosi also had 54 yards rushing.

David Duffalo had 18 tackles on defense for the Rockets.

Apollo-Ridge 34, Summit Academy 6 — The Knights dropped to 0-2 on the season. No other information was available.

Jack Mason shot a 44 to pace Freeport's 241-329 win at Buffalo Golf Course.
