PennDOT receives ‘perpetual pavement’ award for West Sunbury Road
The Asphalt Pavement Alliance announced on Tuesday, March 24, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation was one of 11 state agencies to receive a “Perpetual Pavement By Performance” award for maintaining pavement of “exceptional durability” on West Sunbury Road, Route 308, in Butler County.
Roads eligible for the award must be at least 35 years old, never experience a structural failure and maintain an average interval of at least 13 years before resurfacing.
According to a news release, a 4.66 mile long stretch of West Sunbury Road has been in place for more than 70 years and carries about 2,100 vehicles per day without issue.
West Sunbury Road runs through Center, Clay, Cherry, Marion and Venango townships.
