Prospect fire department to receive new fire engine this August
The Prospect-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department announced on Wednesday, March 18, it will soon add a brand-new fire engine to its fleet.
The engine, a Pierce Saber pumper, will be delivered by Glick Fire Equipment Company in Jackson Township and is expected to arrive at Prospect by August. According to a Facebook post from Glick, the unit will feature a 1,000-gallon water tank, a 1,500 gallon-per-minute pump and a 510-horsepower motor.
The fire department was originally considering purchasing a used fire engine but was able to secure the new one for “under $1 million,” although an exact figure was not given in a news release from the department.
“Every investment we make is carefully evaluated to ensure it directly benefits our community and strengthens our ability to respond when people need us most,” said Michael Davis, department president, in a news release issued Wednesday. “This is about responsible growth and being prepared for the future.”
The new truck goes hand-in-hand with a major renovation and expansion of the fire house on Main Street, which is expected to finish by late spring. The newly-expanded firehouse will include three additional truck bays. The current firehouse only features two bays for the department’s four existing trucks.
