Stephen Geibel
Stephen J. Geibel, 80, of Butler and Marco Island, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 9, 1945, he was a son of the late Stephen J. Geibel and Lillian Hinchberger Geibel.
Steve was a third-generation licensed funeral director and the owner/operator of Geibel Funeral Home in Butler from 1977 through 2012. He belonged to several professional organizations, including the Butler County Funeral Directors Association, and he was a former board president of the Western Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association.
He also proudly served our nation in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Active in the community, Steve was a member of the Butler Elks Lodge 170, the Butler Loyal Order of Moose 64, the RC Men’s Club and American Legion Post 117. An avid golfer, he belonged to the Butler Country Club. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Butler Council 866. A Mason, he belonged to the Butler Victory Lodge 272, the Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh and the Legion of Honor, Caravan 14, Royal Order of Jesters and the Marco Island Shriners.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carol Hilderbrand Green Geibel, whom he married Dec. 31, 2009; three children, Dr. Jeff Geibel and his wife, Lelah, of Butler, Chad Geibel and his wife, Robin, of Butler, and Christine Jamison and her husband, Ken, of Devon, Pa.; two stepchildren, Angela Schnur and her husband, Des, of Butler, and Adam Green, of Butler; 13 grandchildren, Alec Geibel, Grace Geibel, Cole Geibel, Jayce Geibel, Jax Geibel, Maxx Geibel, Jenna Geibel, Lily Jamison, Hannah Jamison, Josie Jamison, Henry Jamison, Cody Schnur and his fiancée, Kati Haley, and Allison Schnur; and one sister-in-law, Susan Geibel, of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera DeRita Geibel, to whom he was married for 41 years, and who passed away May 8, 2008; and his brother, David B. Geibel.
GEIBEL — Friends of Stephen J. Geibel, who died Tuesday, March 17, 2026, will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
Prior to visitation, there will be a Masonic service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Knights of Columbus Butler Council 866 will meet to recite the rosary at the funeral home Sunday evening following visitation.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, at All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler, with the Rev. Kevin C. Fazio officiating.
For those unable to attend, the funeral Mass on Monday will be livestreamed at 10 a.m. via www.hvproductions.net/live.
Military honors will be accorded at the church by American Legion Post 642 of Chicora and American Legion Post 488 of Bradys Bend.
Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
Steve was a dedicated supporter of Shriners Hospitals for Children. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Steve’s memory affirm that support.
