William R. Matthews, 81, of Cranberry Township, passed away Monday, March 9, 2026.

Born March 8, 1945, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late William Lawrence and Alberta (Chance) Matthews.

William was a member of Cranberry Community United Presbyterian Church. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 in Germany. He enjoyed gardening vegetables and learning new technology. He was an avid seeker of knowledge and loved to tinker and fix things around the house. Above all, he was a patient and dedicated family man. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

William leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, James W. Matthews (Judy Dixon), of Doylestown, Pa., and Karen “Kit” M. Shaffer (Josh), of Battletown, Ky; and his grandchildren, Conor, Julia and Dylan Matthews, and Mackenzie “Mack” and Will Shaffer.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (Mahaffey) Matthews, who passed away in 2015.

MATTHEWS — A committal service with military honors for William R. Matthews, who died Monday, March 9, 2026, will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the Chapel at Pinewood Memorial Gardens, 20950 Route 19, Cranberry Township.

Arrangements were entrusted to BOYLAN-GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association, https://diabetes.org.
