Karns City, SR advance in soccer playoffs
Karns City's boys soccer team advanced to the District 9 Class AA championship game with a dominating 11-2 win over Kane Tuesday night in Brockway.
Nate Rondinelli scored six goals and Dakota King scored twice, including the 100th goal of his varsity career.
Also scoring in the win were Owen Collwell, Kaden Scherer and Sean Jones.
KC held a 6-0 lead at halftime.
“We played (Kane) two weeks ago and beat them 9-1,” said Gremlins' coach Jim Grenninger. “We knew if we controlled the ball, it was just a matter of time before we started scoring.”
The Gremlins will face Punxsutawney in the final Oct. 30 in Brockway.
Kayla Daugherty scored twice and added an assist in Slippery Rock's 5-0 win over Sharon in a District 10 Class AA quarterfinal in Greenville.Also scoring were Amanda Lewis, Emily Raine and Hillary Burtner.The Rockets will take on Mercyhurst Prep in a semifinal Monday at a time and site to be determined.
Slippery Rock was eliminated from the District 10 Class 3A playoffs Tuesday night by a 17-25, 22-25, 12-25 quarterfinal loss to General McLane.Virginia Recchia led the Rockets with 21 digs and 25 assists. Taylor Balint added 16 digs, Annika Peale six kills, Lexis Prementine five kills and 16 digs.A-C Valley 3, Moniteau 0 — The Falcons (16-2) closed the regular season with this 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 win on the road.Meah Ielase had 12 digs and 10 kills for the Falcons while teammate Tarra Stefanacci contributed 14 assists and five kills.Emily Wetzel tallied 14 service points, five aces, 12 assists and 11 digs. Mia Sherman added eight kills.Moniteau stats were not available.Both teams will be competing in the District 9 playoffs, A-C Valley in Class A and Moniteau in 2A.
Slippery Rock freshman Jacob Wolak finished the PIAA Class 2A championship tournament by carding a two-round total of 160, which put him in a three-way tie for 10th place out of 36 golfers at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.Wolak shot a 79 in Monday's first round and an 81 on Tuesday.
Butler slipped to 0-5 on the season with a 6-1 loss to Central Catholic Monday night.Brody Simko scored the lone Golden Tornado goal, assisted by Aaron Shoup and Bennett Thrash. Central had a 53-19 edge in shots on goal.Bryce Rearick made 47 saves for Butler.The Tornado dropped a 4-3 decision to Cathedral Prep. Ben Thrash had two goals, Blake Sinicki a goal and assist in the loss. Connor Strobel stopped 44 of 48 shots for Butler.The Tornado host North Allegheny Monday at the Frozen Pond in Valencia.
