A-C Valley rolls past DCC, 3-0

The beat goes on for the A-C Valley girls volleyball team.

The Falcons improved to 17-2 Tuesday night with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-16 District 9 Class 1A playoff win over DuBois Central Catholic Tuesday night.

Hannah Farrington had 11 service points, 11 digs and five kills while Emily Wetzel tallied 21 service points, five aces, 11 digs, 16 assists and four kills. Mia Sherman had 12 service points, five aces, two blocks and 11 kills.

Also producing for the Falcons were Meah Ielase with eight service points, 14 digs and seven kills, Tarra Stefanacci with 11 digs and 17 assists, Andrea Meals two blocks and six kills, Rachel Cullen 10 digs.

A-C Valley travels to Clarion — ranked No. 2 in the state — for a 6:30 p.m. playoff match Thursday.

Ryan Davey received credit for both goals as Slippery Rock advanced to the District 10 title game with a 2-0 win over General McLane at Wilmington High School.Davey has 23 goals for the Rockets (16-3). He was the last Slippery Rock player to touch the ball as McLane scored an “own” goal for the second tally.Duncan McCoy made three saves to get the shutout. Slippery Rock plays Cathedral Prep for the district crown Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

Troy Gilliland scored a goal during the overtime shootout and goaltender Connor Strobel stopped all three North Allegheny attempts as the Golden Tornado varsity hockey team stunned the previously unbeaten Tigers, 2-1, Monday night at the Frozen Pond.The win was the first of the season for Butler.Trey Gilliland scored in the first period for Butler, assisted by Josh Deal and Aidan Potochny. North Allegheny got even by scoring a shorthanded goal with 35 seconds left in regulation.Strobel stopped 39 of 40 Tiger shots on the night.Butler returns to action at 9 p.m. Thursday, taking on Pine-Richland at the Baierl Ice Complex.
