George W. Shirk

Shirk

George W. Shirk, 84, of North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County, died Monday.

Born May 29, 1922, in Duquesne, Alleg-heny County, he was a son of George W. Sr. and Helen Frampton Shirk.

He was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, North Huntingdon. He also was a member of the F&AM Youghiogheny Lodge 583; the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, McKeesport, where he formerly served as a grand tall; the Arab Patrol; the Syria Shrine Temple of Cheswick; and the Carpenters' Union Local 165.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westinghouse Electric.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy E. Bolt Shirk; three sons, William Shirk and his wife, Mary Ann, of Denver, Colo., Daniel Shirk of East Hampton, Conn., and George Shirk III and his wife, Lora, of Zelienople; two daughters, Bonnie Olson and her husband, Verne, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Mavis Hill and her husband, Robert, of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Nancy Shirk Bender, of Williamston, W. Va.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, John and Gertrude Shirk.

<B>SHIRK</B> — Friends of George W. Shirk, who died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the <B>James W. Shirley Funeral Home</B>, Clay Pike, North Huntingdon.A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Janet Reid officiating.Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Charities.Information also is available at www.shirleyfuneralhome.com.
