BUTLER TWP— The card is complete for the professional boxing show slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Butler Days Inn.

Jim Emrick, a heavyweight from Butler sporting a 3-1 pro record with two knockouts, faces Dan Whetzel of Toledo, Ohio, 9-13 with 5 KOs, in the six-round main event.

The other five bouts are four-round affairs and include Dave Cook, a Butler Cubs product sporting a 10-5 amateur record who is making his pro debut in a light heavyweight bout against Gonzalee Jones (1-9) of Akron, Ohio.

The co-main event features Mike Strauss (4-0), a light welterweight from Carnegie, against Shevaris Buie (0-3) of Brooklyn, N.Y. Strauss is trained by Tom Yankello, who is the longtime trainer of Butler heavyweight Brian Minto.

Strauss, 24, has been a Gold Gloves state champion in Pennsylvania and sported a 75-10 amateur record before turning pro.

"He's got three knockouts in his first four pro fights, and, frankly, that's a little surprising to me,"Yankello said. "Mike is more of a boxer than a power puncher.

"He's not going to take anybody out with one punch. He can take guys down with combinations of punches, and that's what he's been doing."

Yankello described Strauss as a "slick boxer, similar in style to Paul Spadafora. He's hard to hit because he knows defense in the ring.

"This is a guy with tremendous upside. He could be a world-class fighter down the road. Monty Meza-Clay is ranked in the top five by the WBOright now and Mike could follow in his footsteps."

Yankello will be part of Friday's show, donning the mitts for a punching exhibition with Emrick's 11-year-old sons, Jimmy and Justin.

"I'll go through drills with them, about five minutes with each, and people will be amazed by how advanced these kids are in the ring for their age,"Yankello said. "They'll be eligible to compete in the Silver Gloves when they're 12 or 13, and I won't be at all surprised if they win there right away."

Other fights on Friday's card include a light heavyweight clash between Jim Lubash (3-1, 2 KOs) of Pittsburgh and Don Schrock (2-7, 1 KO)of Cincinnati; a light middleweight bout between Khristian Geraci (1-2) of Pittsburgh and Cliff Gregory (0-2) of Farrell; and a light welterweight fight between Rod Salka (3-0, 2 KOs)of Pittsburgh and Eric Burke (6-16, 5 KOs) of Columbus, Ohio.
