Freeport student is best actress

Halle Surgil, seated second from right, captured the award for Best Actress at the annual Mancini Awards on Sunday evening. She portrayed Wednesday Addams in Freeport High School's zany cast of characters for “The Addams Family.”

MIDLAND, Beaver County — Several high school musicals from the Butler County area came away with honors from Sunday night's 24th annual Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.

The awards recognize students from Butler, Beaver and Lawrence counties for outstanding student achievement in high school musical theater.

The award for Best Actress was presented to Halle Surgil who played Wednesday Addams in Freeport High School's “The Addams Family.”

And the award for Best Supporting Actress went to Torrance Bajuszik for her role as Jolene Oakes in Knoch's production of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”
