MIDLAND, Beaver County — Several high school musicals from the Butler County area came away with honors from Sunday night's 24th annual Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.
The awards recognize students from Butler, Beaver and Lawrence counties for outstanding student achievement in high school musical theater.
The award for Best Actress was presented to Halle Surgil who played Wednesday Addams in Freeport High School's “The Addams Family.”
And the award for Best Supporting Actress went to Torrance Bajuszik for her role as Jolene Oakes in Knoch's production of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”
Knoch High School also garnered the award for Best Student Orchestra.
Slippery Rock High School took home the award for Best Musical Budget 1 for its staging of “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
Best Costume Design Budget 1 also went to Slippery Rock for “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
And Best Costume Design Budget 2 was presented to Union High School for its production of “Brigadoon.”
The Community Outreach Award was announced for Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School, and the Slippery Rock University Department of Dance
Scholarship was awarded to Alexis Frye from Knoch High School.The Mancini winners for Best Actress and Best Actor (Noah Tobery for his portrayal of Jean Valjean in Big Beaver Fall High School's “Les Miserables) will join the winners from the Pittsburgh CLO's Gene Kelly Awards as well as winners from across the nation for a nine-day experience including private coaching, master classes, and rehearsals with theater professionals in New York City.
