Parking lot under construction

The Butler Transit Authority is installing a new lot and building addition to its “Park and Ride” at Pullman Center Business Park on Hollywood Drive.

The Butler Transit Authority completed a new “Park and Ride” facility at Pullman Park this month, giving riders of the bus service a shelter to wait for buses under.

The project is not quite complete — the waiting area addition is under construction — but executive director of the Butler Transit Authority John Paul said at Tuesday's meeting of the authority board of directors that the new shelter is a welcome addition from riders.

“There's a few busing every day,” he said. “It has not been overwhelmed.”

Paul said the transit authority probably is “looking at March or April until everything is complete” on the park and ride project.

Paul also said in the meeting that the commuter service, which takes riders to and from Pittsburgh, provided 788 rides in December, which is considerably higher than the rides given the same month in 2020. The regular Butler service also was up more than 900 rides, he said.

“Commuter ridership is still down from 2019 this time of year. “Let's put this year behind us,” Paul said of 2021.
