Penn State Extension offers free stream health workshop
Penn State Extension will offer a free workshop teaching educators how watershed landscapes and human activity influence stream health.
The workshop will be offered twice: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 18 at the Buffalo Creek Nature Center, 154 Monroe Road in Buffalo Township, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 31 at the Lower Allen Township Municipal Building in Cumberland County.
Each session will explore indicators of a stream’s condition, teach the First Investigation of Stream Health protocol to assess streams and more. Participants will also receive an educator guidebook to the FISH protocol and a kit containing equipment to perform assessments.
The workshop will last about two hours and require walking to and accessing a stream. Attendees are encouraged to bring lunch and water and to dress appropriately for the outdoors.
Registration is required online at extension.psu.edu/FISH-educator.
