Pittsburgh woman accused of threatening to kill man, attempting to break in with knife
A Pittsburgh woman is accused of attempting to pick the lock of a Cranberry Township man’s apartment with a serrated kitchen knife and threatening to kill him, according to police.
Kiersten Sands, 39, was charged Friday, Feb. 20, by Cranberry Township police with felony criminal trespass and one misdemeanor count each of terroristic threats, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and possession of an instrument of a crime following a Feb. 19 incident.
Police said they responded at 9:24 p.m. to a Stratford Court apartment for reports of a woman breaking in. Sands had left a voicemail on the man’s phone saying she would attempt to kill him and texted the man’s mother to say she would hurt her son, police said.
Sands unlawfully entered the building then attempted to pick the lock of the man’s apartment door with the knife, police said. After police arrived, they reported Sands refused orders to leave the building and kicked the outside of the apartment door.
Police also saw scratch marks inside the lock’s key port.
Sands’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. March 6 before District Judge Kevin Flaherty.
