Bowlers win big

Butler and Freeport opened their respective high school bowling seasons in impression fashion Wednesday.

The Golden Tornado boys and girls swept Shaler by 7-0 scores. Natalie Coughenour rolled a 520 series with a high game of 195 on the girls side. Reegan Malis rolled a 200-505 and Harley Kriess had a 185 game.

Rocco Rice paced the Butler boys with a 595 series, including games of 234 and 200. Chris Huff had a 213-583, Brock Hepler a 197, Blaine Hooks a 193.

Butler visits Mars on Monday.

Freeport swept Apollo-Ridge 7-0 as well. Julia Cummings rolled a 660 series with games of 205, 212 and 243 for the girls. Amber Cepec rolled a 190 game, Sarah Fischer a 170.

On the boys side, Mark Livingston rolled a 298, 191 and 242 for a 731 series. Issaic Spencer rolled a 595 series with games of 215 and 210. Blake Olson rolled a 244-545.

Marcus Trask and Paul Zecca scored goals, but the Freeport varsity hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Fox Chapel recently.Nate Cristello assisted on Zecca's goal. The Yellowjackets had a 30-23 advantage in shots.
