Ohio man dies after being struck on I-80 in Mercer County
An Ohio man died Thursday, Feb. 19, after being struck by a pickup truck on Interstate 80 in East Lackawannock Township, Mercer County, according to a new release from the county coroner.
Gregory C. Booty, 58, of Vienna, Ohio, was traveling east on I-80 when his vehicle became disabled around 6:30 p.m., according to Coroner John Libonati. He parked his vehicle on the highway’s south berm.
Booty exited his vehicle and walked toward the median. He was in a passing lane when he was struck, Libonati said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:30 p.m. by Robert Snyder, chief deputy coroner. Booty died of accidental blunt force trauma to multiple areas.
State police are investigating the incident. Mercer East End Volunteer Fire Department and PennDOT also responded.
