Woman testifies in alleged assault by Chicora man

EVANS CITY — A Connoquenessing Township woman detailed how a Chicora man allegedly assaulted her and then attempted to intimidate her into not testifying against him in a Wednesday, Feb. 18, preliminary hearing.

Sara McGreggor testified she was assaulted by Nathan Andrew Cornell, 36, on Jan. 28 at her mobile home on Rolling Valley Lane while she had two friends over. She said Cornell had been sending her threatening text messages for days before the alleged assault.

Cornell was charged with felony witness intimidation and one misdemeanor count each of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz held all charges for court.

McGreggor said she invited Cornell to her home Jan. 28 and the two planned to drive somewhere to get the title of a vehicle changed to McGreggor’s name.

McGreggor said the two got into an argument over the title inside the home, which is when she said Cornell grabbed both her arms and shoved her to the side. McGreggor said she hit her head on the ground after she was shoved.

McGreggor said she got up and was shoved again. When she got up the second time, McGreggor said Cornell hit her in the right eye.

Assistant district attorney David Beichner showed a photo to the court of McGreggor’s bruised eye after she was struck.

She also said this wasn’t the first instance of violence between the two. McGreggor alleged Cornell becomes violent when she attempts to distance herself from him.

“He does this when he’s losing control of me,” McGreggor testified.

Police said McGreggor had several prior criminal cases against Cornell.

Defense attorney Michael Zunder argued the felony intimidation charge should be dismissed because there was no evidence Cornell contacted McGreggor following the crime, but Marcinkiewicz left it up to the higher court.

His formal arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. April 7 in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
