Genealogical society to give family heritage research tips

The nature of genealogy is changing. It’s no longer digging into dusty old records, the province of old scholars. So much can be discovered on a laptop, and the Butler County Genealogical Society will demonstrate that at a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The presentation will be led by Polly Shaw, a retired teacher of Seneca Valley School District, and author of the book, “Moraine State Park,” by Arcadia Publishing. Attendees will receive a packet of worksheets and information to help launch their research, and the program will conclude with everyone sharing insights on family genealogy.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. at Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean St. in Butler, and is free to attend. Check the society’s Facebook page, “Butler County Genealogy Society,” for possible cancellations due to the weather.
