Russell L. “Big Russ” Miller Sr., 88, of Renfrew, passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, in the comfort of his home with his wife and his son at his side.

Born Sept. 7, 1937, he was the son of Floyd and Edna May (Bucher) Miller.

He served six years in the Army National Guard where was known as “Bull Moose.” He then was a dedicated masonry laborer in the Butler area and retired from Butler Local No. 323 with over 50 years of service. Russ was a lifetime member of the East Butler Fireman’s Club where he was known as “Whistler.”

Russ is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vi (Hoffman) Miller, whom he married Aug. 15, 1964; and his son, Russell “Rusty” Miller Jr., of Chicora. He is also survived by one sister, Jane Weichey, of Butler; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews; as well as many good friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Miller, and his wife, Erla, of Long Island, N.Y.; one sister-in-law and five brothers-in-law.

His family wishes to send a special thanks to all persons who have helped the family care for Russ as his health declined.

MILLER — Services and burial at Greenlawn Burial Estates were held privately for Russell L. “Big Russ” Miller Sr., who died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.

The Young family of WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, has assisted the family with arrangements.
