The Rev. Dr. Chalmers Holmes Goshorn Jr., 84, formerly of Waynesboro, Va., died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday at Shenandoah House, Fishersville, Va.

Born in Newton Hamilton, Mifflin County, Pa., July 16, 1925, he was the son of the Rev. Chalmers Holmes Goshorn Sr. and Eva Marie Steele Goshorn.

He married Janet Marie Thomas on June 8, 1951, and she died Oct. 29, 2001.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in Austria and was in the infantry in Italy when the war ended.

Rev. Goshorn was a retired Presbyterian minister.

He had degrees from Waynesburg College (BA), Princeton Theological Seminary (MDiv) and McCormick Theological Seminary (DMin).

He was pastor to a number of churches in Columbus Grove, Ohio; East Palestine, Ohio; Jeffersonville, Ind.; and New Washington, Ind. He retired from the Leesburg Presbyterian Church, Village of Leesburg, Volant, Pa. He later went on to serve five times as an interim pastor and parish associate in Virginia.

Surviving are a daughter, Roxann Goshorn Massey and her husband, Dr. David Q. Massey, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; a son, Chalmers H. Goshorn III and his wife, Melody, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; a sister, Ann L. Oldman of Harrisonburg, Va.; a brother, the Rev. Dr. Robert Dick Goshorn and his wife, Jean, of Harrisonburg, Va.; and a granddaughter, Chelsea Massey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Janet.

Dr. Chalmers Holmes Goshorn Jr., who died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, will be received from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Butler County Memorial Park, 380 Evans City Road, Butler, with the Rev. Robert D. Goshorn, retired clergy and brother of Chalmers, presiding. Interment will be at the Butler County Memorial Park.In Virginia, a memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, Fishersville, Va.Memorial contributions may be made to the Shenandoah House, P.O.
