Butler County launches new community alert system
Butler County Emergency Services said residents can now sign up for Regroup, the newly launched, high-speed community emergency alert system.
In December, county commissioners approved an agreement with Regroup to replace the previous system, CodeRED, after learning it was impacted by a national cybersecurity incident.
Regroup provides a more secure, reliable and user-friendly way for the county to communicate life-saving information to residents, according to the department.
“Our top priority is ensuring residents have the information they need to stay safe during an emergency,” said Steve Bicehouse, Butler County Emergency Services director. “By moving to Regroup, we are providing a more reliable platform for critical alerts such as 911 system updates, public safety threats and major infrastructure disruptions.”
As a part of the Regroup launch, the county is introducing its “No-Nuisance” pledge. To prevent “alert fatigue,” the system will be reserved strictly for emergencies where immediate action is required. Residents will receive notifications for life-safety threats, severe weather and evacuation notices, but will not receive alerts for non-emergency road closures or community events.
Because Regroup is a new and secure platform, all residents must register for a new account, even if they were previously enrolled in CodeRED. Registration is free and takes less than 60 seconds.
Regroup alerts can be sent across multiple channels, including text, voice and email.
