Stillwagon

Mark A. Stillwagon, 94, of 4563 State Route 168, Volant, passed way Saturday morning in Jameson Hospital North.

Born March 22, 1915, in Hooker, he was the son of the late Mark and Mary Harriet Smith Stillwagon.

He married Esther L. Johnston on April 21, 1939, and she passed away in 1983.

Mr. Stillwagon was a graduate of Butler High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh.

He worked several jobs, most notably as a quality control inspector for both Lockley Machine and Rockwell Standard in New Castle. Prior to that he worked for Carnegie-Illinois Steel in Pittsburgh as a lubrication engineer and Valvoline Oil in Oil City, where he worked in the chemistry lab. He also had a photography studio in Franklin.

Mr. Stillwagon enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing and collecting coins. He also loved music and played both the clarinet and the piano.

He was past president of the local chapter of the AARP in New Castle, a member of the New Wilmington Camera Club, a former member of the Eagles Club and a former member of the Mary Mother of Hope Parish.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose (Donald) Michael of New Castle and Carolyn and (Wylie) Sholler of Volant; and one son and a daughter-in-law, Mark R. and (Ruth Ann) Stillwagon of Old Forge. He also is survived by a sister, Eileen Welchley of Butler; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; two grandchildren, Renee Marie Sholler and Clint M. Sholler; two brothers, Bernard and John Stillwagon; and five sisters, Rosemary Smith, Harriet Oswald, Madeline (Pinkey) Geibel, Gertrude (Babe) Kurtz and Roberta (Pootsie) Weiland.

<B>STILLWAGON</B> — Calling hours for Mark A. Stillwagon, who died Saturday, July 11, 2009, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>R. Cunningham Funeral home and Crematory</B>, 2429<B> </B>Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home officiated by the Rev. Richard K.
