2 Butler bowlers move on

Huff, Blose off to state tourney; A-C Valley hoop team defeated

Butler bowlers Chris Huff and Rachael Blose both qualified for the state tournament thanks to their efforts at Western Regionals Friday at North Versailles Bowl.

Huff placed third out of 78 boys while Blose finished ninth out of 89 girls.

Twenty-four bowlers — 12 boys and 12 girls — advanced from the event to the state tournament, scheduled next Friday at the same venue.

Butler freshman Natalie Coughenour missed the cut by just six pins, placing 13th.

Boys Basketball

WPIAL champion Vincentian Academy defeated A-C Valley, 93-63, in a PIAA Class 1A first-round playoff Friday night at Valley High School.

The Falcons (16-10) received 22 points from Levi Orton and 12 from Eddie Stevanus, but couldn't keep up with the Royals, who led 42-29 at halftime.
