STATE COLLEGE — Six students are facing a preliminary hearing on charges they supplied alcohol at a party where a Penn State cheerleader was seriously injured after falling from a fifth-floor window.

Two other students, 19-year-old Julie Hannan and 19-year-old Madeline Miller, have waived their right to today's preliminary hearing and will face possible trial on the misdemeanor charges.

The university says the students have been removed from their respective teams.

The charges were filed in January after an investigation into the October fall that injured 19-year-old Paige Raque. She suffered head and pelvic injuries after falling 39 feet out a screened window of the downtown State College apartment. Police have ruled the fall accidental.

Her family says she has since returned to her Kentucky home, but still suffers pain.

CHARLEROI — Two former Western Pennsylvania school cafeteria workers have acknowledged gambling away nearly $94,000 one of them stole from the school from August 2010 through October.Attorneys for 50-year-old Stacy Lee Shipley and 49-year-old Sheila Ann Cook say both women are remorseful and working to repay the money stolen from Charleroi High School-Middle School.The attorneys made those comments as the women waived a preliminary hearing on theft-related charges Monday.Investigators say Shipley stole the money when students paid cash for lunches and agreed to share it with Cook when they played slot machines and agreed to split their winnings at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino.Cook didn't steal the money, but knew where it came from while she was gambling with it.Police say Cook told them she “just got caught up in the thrill of it all.”

PITTSBURGH — A father and daughter have pleaded guilty in a scuffle at a Western Pennsylvania baseball park last spring in which a security officer almost lost a finger.Rachel George, 21, and Christopher George, 51, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Allegheny County Court to misdemeanor simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and other counts.Both were sentenced to probation, and Rachel George was also ordered to spend 30 days on house arrest.Police alleged they attacked the guard at PNC Park in May as she was being removed from the stadium. Authorities said the guard's finger got caught in a fence and was nearly ripped off but was reattached at a hospital.Both defendants apologized to the guard. Defense attorneys said neither intended harm and called the episode a freak accident.
