Sandra L. Carney, 64, of Slippery Rock, formerly of Apollo, died Friday in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Nov. 6, 1946, in Oil City, the daughter of Robert O. and Betty Jane Elder Tock.

Mrs. Carney lived in Apollo until 2008, where she was a math teacher in the Apollo Ridge School District. She did home tutoring. She also taught life sciences and math in Martins Ferry, Ohio and Weirton, W.Va.

Sandy was a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y., and Indiana (Pa.) University with a degree in mathematics. She retired in 2008.

She was a member of the Apollo Free Methodist Church, and was an accomplished tennis player, enjoyed camping and cutting wood, loved to fish, enjoyed woodworking and canoeing, and was an avid photographer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gary Tock; and a niece, Melissa Swing.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, the Rev. Darrell L. Carney of Slippery Rock; two sons, Dirk T. and his wife, Colleen Carney, of Monaca, and Boyd T. and his wife, Jerilee Carney, of Lewisburg; a daughter, Rachel C. and her husband, Benjamin, Loux of Penfield; six grandchildren, Abigail, Alexia, Max and Jonah Carney, and Hanna and Micah Loux; a sister, Kathy and her husband, Charles, Aites of Statesville, N.C.; a brother, Dee W. and his wife, Nancy, Tock of Cooperstown, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dunmire of Seneca; several nieces and a nephew.

<B>CARNEY — </B>Friends of Sandra L. Carney, who died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the <B>CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY,</B> 100 Owens Ave., Apollo. Visitations will continue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Apollo Free Methodist Church, Kiski Township, with services at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Forrest States, the Rev. Harold Haire, the Rev. Robert Singleton and the Rev. James Jobes officiating.
