Karns City girls basketball’s defense stymies Redbank Valley; Mars boys wins third straight: Roundup

Karns City girls basketball held Redbank Valley to a single point in the fourth quarter in a 66-35 victory over the host Bulldogs on Friday.

Naomi Venesky dropped a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Summerville added 18 points and Alivia Farren scored 10 for the Gremlins (13-2).

Johnsonburg 36, Union/A-C Valley 14 — The Falcon Knights fell to 6-10 with this loss in Rimersburg.

Boys basketball

Mars withstood being outscored 18-7 in the third quarter to upend West Allegheny 65-47.

Austen Wroblewski tallied 23 points for the Planets, Ben Detisch had 12 and Ethan Kresinski 11.

After losing six consecutive games, Mars (9-8) has won three straight.

Seneca Valley 50, North Hills 47 — Owen Congdon sank 13 of his 19 points in the second half of this Raiders’ victory.

Andrew Omasits added 10 points for SV (10-7, 5-5).

Knoch 73, Highlands 52 — All five starters scored in double figures for Knoch — Vinnie DeFelice (20), Teegan Finucan (16), Derek Lang (14), Roman DeFelice (12) and Liam Avon (10).

Knoch (15-1) has won 14 straight games.

North Catholic 70, Valley 13 — The Trojans (13-4, 7-1 WPIAL Section 1-4A) exploded for 37 points in the second quarter.

Jason Fredericks led the rout with 26 points, including five 3-pointers. Brandon Pickett added 17 points and four treys.

East Allegheny 59, Freeport 37 — Gavin Tola scored eight points for the Yellowjackets.

Hickory 68, Slippery Rock 45 — The Rockets (2-13) received 14 points from Doug Popovec.
