Charles E. "Charlie" Carlson, 80, formerly of Chicora Road, Butler, now of Saxonburg, died at 4:48 a.m. Tuesday in the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.

Born Feb. 6, 1929, in DuBois, he was the son of the late Charles Leo Carlson and Margaret E. Hollenbeck Carlson.

Mr. Carlson was a machinist for Wise Machine for 38 years, retiring in June 1993.

Previous to that, he worked for the B&O Railroad Co. for nine years.

He was a member of the Community Alliance Church.

Mr. Carlson was a former chairman of the Summit Township Water Authority and a member of the zoning hearing board for Summit Township.

Mr. Carlson enjoyed painting, church involvements, lawn care and outdoor activities. Mr. Carlson enjoyed life to its fullest.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. "Dot" Carlson, who he married June 4, 1950; a son, Danny Lee Carlson of Kittanning; a daughter, Ellen Marie and her husband, John A. Shields, of Fishersville, Va.; a granddaughter, Heather and her husband, Thomas, Walton of Crozet, Va.; a great-granddaughter, Gracie Walton; two chosen daughters, Nikki and her husband, Don, and son, Timothy, Ellenberger, and Judy and her husband, Gary, O'Donnell; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lorraine Carlson of Butler and Mrs. Joyce Carlson of DuBois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carlson was preceded in death by a brother.

<B>CARLSON</B> — Friends of Charles E. "Charlie" Carlson, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E.
