Butler boys basketball falls at North Hills; North Catholic’s Jude Rottmann reaches 1,000 points: Roundup
Butler boys basketball was unable to climb out of a 36-21 halftime deficit in a 62-48 loss at North Hills on Tuesday.
The defeat drops the Golden Tornado to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in WPIAL Section 1-6A play.
Stainton Forbes tallied 19 points, four rebounds and four assists for Butler. Andrew Gettinger scored 11 points.
North Catholic 90, Freeport 58 — Trojans’ senior guard Jude Rottmann scored 15 points and reached 1,000 for his career.
He joins teammate Jason Fredericks in reaching the milestone this season.
Fredericks paced North (11-4, 5-1) with 22 points, Brandon Pickett added 15 and Tom Rottmann 14, including four treys.
Max Zigo tallied 16 points for Freeport (5-9, 3-5) and Gavin Tola chipped in 11.
Moniteau 67, North Clarion 54 — Ian Ross and Dawson Cook both sank 20 points as the Warriors (9-4) were too much for the Wolves.
Trailing at halftime, the Warriors won the game on the strength of a 46-27 edge over the final two quarters.
Brendin Sankey added 13 points, 14 rebounds and five assists for Moniteau. Andrew Zepeda scored 11 points.
Knoch 56, Burrell 32 — Derek Lang’s 17 points paced the Knights. Vinnie DeFelice scored 13 and Liam Avon 12.
Mars 63, Avonworth 56 — A trio of Planets reached double digits in points — Ben Detisch (16), Austen Wroblewski (14) and Ethan Kresinski (12).
Grove City 45, Slippery Rock 34 — Doug Popovec scored 14 points for the Rockets, and Fred Campagna had 13.
Slippery Rock trailed 24-14 at halftime.
Summit Academy 75, Propel Montour 45 — Ky’zir Rowan powered the Knights to a blowout with 26 points. Demetrius Crosby and Elijah Barnes chipped in 19 and 12 points, respectively.
Maddy Dehart is now less than 100 points away from 1,000 for her career after a monster night in Warren County.
The senior forward dropped 36 points, including 13 field goals, to lead Union/A-C Valley to a 61-32 victory at Tidioute Charter. She added 14 rebounds and is 95 points from a grand.
Raelynn Fletcher added nine points, five assists and five steals for the Falcon Knights (5-9).
Plum swept Mars 102-59 (girls) and 90-73 (boys) as Preston Heynes (50-yard freestyle) and Dom Davis (200 free, 100 breaststroke) earned WPIAL cuts in their events.
Butler eked out a win over Hempfield by a final of 800(65x)-800(58x). No other details were provided.
