Man in custody Tuesday following Monday manhunt in Oakland Township

The man who prompted a Monday night search in Oakland Township was taken into custody early Tuesday, according to state police.

Police found and arrested Jamal McQueen, of Youngstown, Ohio, after the hours-long search that followed an attempted traffic stop in Butler. Prior to his arrest, the man had been last seen in the area of Davis Road and East Butler Road on foot.

He had approached a residence claiming to have run out of gas, police said in a news release.

Police had attempted to pull over an individual operating a white Hyundai Elantra with Ohio license plate number U699980 for a traffic violation in the area of North Monroe and East Brady streets when the operator refused to stop and sped off.

Police described the suspect as a Black man with dreadlocks wearing black pants, a black jacket with white stripes down the arms and a white T-shirt.

A suspect was arrested and taken to the Butler County Prison early Tuesday morning.

State police thanked the public for their assistance.

McQueen was charged with one charge each of misdemeanor fleeing or attempting the elude an officer and loitering and prowling at nighttime and one count each of summery general lighting requirements and criminal trespass.
