Madison Romanovich drops another 30-pointer in Slippery Rock win; Knoch’s Owen Layhew closing in on 100 wins: Roundup

Madison Romanovich had yet another monster game with 33 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead the Rockets at home to a 68-51 win over Conneaut on Saturday.

Brielle Jordan contributed 15 points, three assists and three steals, and Ryleigh Cornelius added ight points and six boards.

Freeport 49, Mercer 37 - Maggie Conger paced the Yellowjackets with 15 points as Lilly Holloway added 10.

Seneca Valley 57, Taylor Allderdice 26 - Reece McFadden led the Raiders with 20 points as three from SV cracked double digits.

Makayla Canty scored 15, and Natalie Hambly dropped 14, including three 3-pointers.

Brockway 53, Union/A-C Valley 19 - Maddy Dehart led the Falcon Knights with seven points.

Boys wrestling

Knoch 10th at Howland Invitational - The Knights crossed the Pennsylvania-Ohio boarder for Howland High School, finishing with 88.5 points as Owen Layhew (144) and Ethan Nowicki (190) each took home silver.

Layhew lost by 6-0 decision, and Nowicki was pinned a minute into the final. Layhew is now two wins shy of becoming the first Knoch wrestler with 100 after going 4-1 Saturday.

Brayden McGowan (155) won bronze with a pin in the third-place match.

North Catholic 61st at Top Gun Tournament - The Trojanns scored 17.5 points at Alliance High School (Ohio), with 126-pounder Victor Wagner finishing closest to the podium when he fell in the sixth round of consolations.

Girls wrestling

Leila Crowe (130 pounds) and Carma Forty (142) finished fourth individually in the Battle Against Breast Cancer Tournament at Sharpsville High School, as Knoch finished 13th with 48 points.

It was the first event since head coach Logan Downes was reinstated after being fired a week ago.

Makayla Pethtel cam in sixth at 155.

Indoor track and field

Samantha Montgomery took home two medals at Youngstown State University during a meet for Slippery Rock on Saturday, placing second in the long jump with a 16-11.25 and fifth in the triple jump with a 34-6.

Lydia Springirth came in sixth in the high jump (4-10), and Hunter Doeflinger ran a 52.73 in the 400-meter dash to claim seventh.
