CLINTON TWP — A quick response by firefighters helped keep most of the damage from a Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, chimney fire confined to the roof of a family home.

Family members evacuated after reporting the fire just before 10:30 a.m. in a one-story home in the 200 block of Spring Valley Road.

Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company Chief Chris Dean said smoke was escaping through the eaves of the home when firefighters arrived. He said he activated a second alarm, which included several tanker trucks, because he did not know the extent of the fire.

Dean said firefighters quickly got the fire under control, preventing significant property damage. The fire was contained to the area of the attic and roof around the chimney, he said.

No one was injured.

Penn Township, Adams Area, West Deer Township, Buffalo Township, Herman and Richland Township volunteer fire departments and Penn Township police also responded to the fire.
