Butler co-ed cheer earns silver at PIAA championships: Roundup
With an 85.7 total score, Butler’s co-ed cheer team finished second behind McDowell (88) at the PIAA competitive spirit championships on Saturday. Union/A-C Valley finished fourth (74.9).
Despite Maddy Dehart’s career-high 31 points, Union/A-C Valley fell to Reynolds 62-51. Dehart added eight rebounds and three steals for the Falcon Knights (4-6), while Emma Kifer had 10 points.
Union/A-C Valley faces Redbank Valley at home next.
Karns City 36, Elk County Catholic 25 — Naomi Venesky had 12 points and Hannah Summerville another 10 in the Gremlins’ win.
Carter Ekas placed first in the 400 meters (50.82) as Butler opened its season at Edinboro University on Saturday. Ekas’ effort was the third-best in program history.
The Golden Tornado’s 4x200 relay made up of Logan Ekas, Kevin Shriver, Isaac Miller and Tyson Pino also posted the best time of the day.
Butler’s girls distance medley relay (13:32.89) took first, as well. That group consisted of Avery Sintz, Bailee Ewell, Macie McLister and Zari Golojuh.
Union 45, Reynolds 23 — Trent Fleming had a team-high 12 points for the Knights on Saturday, while Max Gallagher added nine.
