On the editorial page of the June 9 Butler Eagle, I found these words “Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.”
The article was speaking of the front page devotionals that have appeared during this COVID-19 pandemic and were very well received by the general public.
I, too, am saddened by the decision to end them because I have appreciated reading and sharing some of them, so I am accepting the offer to share one last one.
The good news is, however, that not “ALL good things” have to come to an end. Those who have placed their faith in the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made when He shed His blood on the cross then three days after He was buried arose from the dead, have everlasting or eternal life.
Note that the Bible tells us that it is in the present that we have it, and since it is everlasting or eternal, it must continue on throughout the ages to come. The golden text of the Bible is said to be John3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
The preceding verse calls it eternal life and the author of the Gospel also wrote three letters and in the first: (1 John 5:13) he says that we can know that we have “eternal life.”
So, I conclude, that the best thing does not have to come to an end.
We understand that the writer of the article is referring to the things of this world and the apostle Peter agrees: 1 Peter 4:7 says “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober and watch unto prayer.”
So there is coming a time when the things of this world will end. Believers in God's Word need to have a sound mind (“be sober”) and diligent in prayer. Just because we are transitioning into a freer society should not negate the responsibility to pray for those in need of the assurance that God offers eternal life: free for the asking. Jesus said (Matthew 7:7) “Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
My earnest desire is that the difficult things the world has been going through will cause many to do as Jesus said (Luke 21:28) “And when ye see these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
