Wrestlers fare well in Hershey

3 move on to quarterfinals

HERSHEY — Alejandro Herrera-Rondon and Dylan Chappell of Seneca Valley both moved on to PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals after racking up wins on the first day of the PIAA Wrestling Championships Thursday at the Giant Center.

Herrera-Rondon, a defending champion at 106 pounds, received a bye in the first round at 113 pounds pinning Marino Angelicchio of Latrobe at 1:37.

Chappell at 106 pounds also had a bye before pinning Dominic Findora of Downingtown West at 3:08.

Chappell will face Julian Maidonado of Boyertown Friday, while Herrera-Rondon will square off with Andrew Smith from Nazareth.

Jake Richardson of Mars earned a major decision at 160 pounds in Class AA over Tyler Wileman of Juniata, 12-2.

Richardson will face Clayton Ulrey of Lower Dauphin Friday.

Slippery Rock senior Kaleb Kamerer fell to Austin Walley of Ellwood City by a 10-2 decision in his first-round bout at 182 pounds in Class AA.

But Kamerer rebounded in the consolation round against Noel Gilgeous of Church Farm School with a 7-2 decision.

Kamerer will face JC Sinychynsky of Penn Cambria Friday in the second round of consolitations.

Seneca Valley's Antonio Amelio (145) and Jason Geyer (132) saw their seasons come to a close, each posting two losses on the evening.
